The Vanilla Remastered realm
What's different on the Vanilla Remastered realm (race and class pairs, auto-learned spells, faster levels, AoE loot) and how Star Pouches work.
The official Vanilla Remastered realm is classic Vanilla with a handful of quality-of-life changes. Pure-vanilla realms run without them. Realm hosts can turn each one on or off (see Host your own realm).
Note: A few of these arrive with realm restarts, so a change listed here may reach a given realm a little later. The changelog says what's live.
Races and classes #
Vanilla Remastered allows 56 race and class pairs, the same as modern retail:
- Every race can be a Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Mage or Warlock.
- Paladin: Human or Dwarf. Shaman: Orc, Tauren or Troll. Druid: Night Elf, Tauren or Troll.
In character creation every class has its own slot; a class your race can't be is greyed out with the reason, and picking it moves you to a race that can. Every class starts with all its class weapon skills; racial weapon bonuses stay with their race. Class quest chains are open to every pair (new hunters, for example, have taming chains in Goldshire and Brill).
Levelling #
- Spells learn themselves: every trainer spell and rank is learned when you level up. Trainers will tell you that you already know everything.
- Faster levels: the XP needed per level is 5–15% lower (levels 1–60 take about 3.7 million XP instead of 4.1 million). Quest and kill XP are unchanged; rested XP builds 25% faster.
- Free respec and two specs from level 10 (see Talents).
- Hunters tame their first pet at 10, as in stock Vanilla.
Loot and mail #
- AoE loot: looting one corpse also gathers from nearby corpses (up to 10 within 30 yards), solo or in free-for-all groups. Quest drops stay on their own corpse; skinning, mining, herbalism and pickpocketing are unchanged.
- Instant mail between characters on the same account.
Star Pouches #
You get a Star Pouch every time you gain a level (by mail if your bags are full). Pouches don't stack and sit in the To open lane of your bags. Each holds gold, a potion kit, a scroll and a world-drop green for its level band, with a 25% chance of a second green. Close it and anything left goes into your bags.
| Levels | Gold in the pouch |
|---|---|
| 2–10 | 50 silver |
| 11–20 | 1 gold 50 silver |
| 21–30 | 3 gold |
| 31–40 | 5 gold 50 silver |
| 41–50 | 9 gold |
| 51–60 | 13 gold 50 silver |
Achievements on the realm #
The realm keeps your achievements, so they survive reinstalls and show on the Armory. Progress you made before achievements launched is granted on your first login after.
Playerbots #
Some realms use playerbots: computer-controlled characters. Play Solo is built around them (chapter 5), and the Warfront realm fills battlegrounds with bots during bot-fill hours (you're told when you enter, and bots never count for streaks or bounties). Bots are always the realm's own; Open Vanilla never presents bots as players.
