Questions and words
Short answers to common questions, and the words you'll meet in Open Vanilla.
Common questions #
Is this official? #
No. Open Vanilla is a free fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Blizzard. World of Warcraft is a trademark of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.
Does it cost anything? #
No. Tips are optional and never buy power, items or game time (Tips).
Why do I need my own Vanilla Client v1.3? #
Open Vanilla never distributes Blizzard's files. The launcher can fetch a client from the Internet Archive for you, or use one you have.
Will I lose my characters? #
No: characters live on the realm. Guests keep theirs by linking Discord. Solo characters live on your PC. Alpha realms may be reset; that's announced first.
Can I play on my phone? #
Yes, in the browser with touch controls (Phones and tablets).
Can I use my old addons? #
Many Vanilla addons work. Install them from the Workshop or a zip; the Workshop label tells you how well they're expected to work.
Does Open Vanilla use AI? #
It has no AI of its own. You can connect your own AI agent to build things (Connect an AI); Herald can optionally help staff sort reports, and humans decide every action.
How do I delete my data? #
Ask on Discord. See privacy.
